Why Triumph Matters

What if Survival Was Never the Goal?

You were taught to play the game: work twice as hard, stay quiet, and make it look easy. We’ve learned to navigate workplaces that were never built with us in mind—performing excellence, shrinking ourselves, and enduring harm just to survive.

But what if we told you that surviving was making you sick?

What if we told you that the stress, silence, and self-sacrifice were not just unfortunate side effects but warning signs? And that you have every right to choose differently.

What if we showed you ways to stop letting the system define success and start building lives that reflect your values, boundaries, and vision?

Triumph in the Trenches, Vol. 3 is your roadmap to healing, reinvention, and power beyond the systems that shaped us. Whether you're redefining how you show up at work or building something of your own, this book offers real stories, strategies, and pathways forward.

About My Chapter

As one of the contributing authors, I bring more than 25 years of corporate HR leadership experience to the pages of Triumph 3. My chapter, “Five HR Secrets Every Black Professional Should Know,” pulls back the curtain on how career decisions are really made in corporate spaces.

From performance management cycles to succession planning, sponsorship, and talent development programs, I share both personal stories and practical tools to help Black professionals understand the systems that shape advancement—and learn how to take ownership of their own trajectory.

About the Cover

The cover of Triumph in the Trenches is green in honor of Victor Hugo’s Green Book for Negro Motorists—a guide that once helped Black travelers find safety and belonging on uncertain roads.

The hot air balloons nod to a different kind of navigation.

During the Civil War, balloons were used for aerial reconnaissance, giving scouts the ability to rise above the battlefield and see what couldn’t be seen from the ground.

This book offers a higher vantage point. A broader view and the clarity to move forward on your own terms.

Through these stories, you’ll learn to:

  • Reclaim your vision and value

  • Recognize patterns of adversity

  • Redefine your definition of success

  • Resist internalizing harm and stand in your worth

  • Reframe rest and resistance as essential, not optional

This is not just a book. It’s a map, a mirror, and a lift.
